                                                                    Feed The Harbor 2012 Was A Huge Success!!

Feed The Harbor 2012 was held on March 18th at all Publix Supermarkets in Port Charlotte and Punta Gorda and one in Englewood (Merchant's Crossing). There were over 170 volunteers and 13 churches that participated this year. In just over 6 hours, 1,000 shoppers donated over 20,000 lbs of food. That's over 10 Tons! Our citizens really stepped up to help feed their fellow neighbors in need. the food was distributed to 26 food pantries, feeding programs and outreach ministries. These organizations assist an average of 15,000 citizens a month. This is the 3rd year Feed the Harbor has taken place in our community, and also the 3rd year that HELP in Charlotte County has assisted with the event. Each year, before the event, fliers and a shopping list are distributed around Charlotte County. Members of our community are asked to purchase items from that list and drop it off outside of a local Publix. The food and supplies are then distributed to food pantries across Charlotte County. Look for the next Feed The Harbor event in Spring of 2013!

H.E.L.P. in Charlotte County is dedicated to to making sure Charlotte County's food pantries are able to continue to help the people in need that they serve. The need for assistance is at an all time high. Many local food pantries have to turn citizens away because their shelves are empty. H.E.L.P. has hosted food drives by out of town organizations, such as "T-Shirts for Turkeys", as well help as distribute food collected by local organizations. We also look for ways to facilitate food drives our selves, like "Stuff The Trolley". Click on the pictures below to see H.E.L.P in action.
